| Harry Potter, Twilight or neither (movies) I'm a fan of Twilight - for a kick back "fun" flick... but like Potter more for effects...
While I'm not a big movie fan, I'm antsing to see Julia and Julia... anyone see it yet? It released in the region on the 7th (Philadelphia)

| I liked Twilight... didn't see the recent Harry Potter yet... saw The Hangover, it was pretty funny... want to see the Julia one too. I saw The Stoning of Soraya M; it was so heavy... I love seeing movies... | |

Didn't see the recent Harry; need to see the Hangover. Did see The Proposal. That was funny.... I am just getting into movies... oddly, as anxiety decreases, enjoying life increases (said with a smile)

| I saw Potter. I didn't much care for the first one (or two?)...I enjoyed this one.
The recent Star Trek I liked a lot.
Maybe it is a guy thing, but I will have to be convinced to see Julia. I will say that imitation characters seem to be a sure way to an academy nomination.

I've heard that people who read the books can't stand this current Potter BUT people who have not, enjoy this one more.... I'm a non-fiction reader so for me, this Potter is promising. (that that fast 3x). 2. I have had the hardest time getting my male friends to see Julia & Julia. There is a group of us who want to go but want the guys to go and they feel it's too chick-flick... where I think it will not be really.... more comical "slice of life" and "self made discovery/person" kind of thing. I saw the movie UP after my friend Marc saw it and raved; I hated it. Like really hated it. The Ugly Truth wasn't too bad but it was contrived, as expected. Great for a late night with nothing to do. I use Watch Movies (Free) for most movie watching unless going with friends.. my daughter told me about the site. If you have a mac or HIGH security/virus protection, go for it. Otherwise, I'd not tangle with the site...

| That is surprising about Up. I've only heard good things about it.
I've been working my way..veeeery slooooooowly through the New York Times list of the top 1000 movies. So mostly I am watching those from the library in my spare time. I am thinking the time might be better spent watching the top 100 twice.
I read mostly non fiction as well...never been tempted to read Potter. It also helps that I don't go in expecting too much from ol' Harry Potter. It's a fun little fantasy world..and the kids actually do a decent acting job.

| Sorry, Enchanted April wasn't on the list. You'll have to take it up with the NYTs. When you think about it, 1000 is a lot of movies considering they've only been making them for less than a hundred years. Some of them are not all that good. Great seems to miean in their usage, important or inovative for the time.

| you got in before I edited. There are a lot of foreign movies and some indies on it. I guess they do use the term "best." Here's the list if you are curious: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/movies/1000best.htmlI liked enchanted april better than some on the list. | |

| I want to see Julia, especially after seeing interviews about the movie and about her. I've watched her when she was on TV, but not that much. She sounds like she was a really interesting person. Hope the movie is factual. | |

| I saw Julie & Julia last night... kind of slow... very slow actually. But Streep was amazing as Julia Child, and it was interesting to learn about Julia Child and the impact she has had on American culture. | |

| I watched In The Bedroom on video. That is one powerful movie. Might be slow for some people. Disturbing and thought provoking. | |

| Sounder, In the Bedroom was a great film, very powerful. My 21 year-old cousin was killed by a BF when she was breaking up with him... some guys go bonkers when in that type of situation and end up killing the girl, or the other guy or themselves or all three...Like in the movie, my aunt ran into the guy in the grocery store a few weeks after; he was out on bail. I know my aunt and uncle had thoughts of taking things in their own hands. Rented this movie this week from Blockbuster. Five stars! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/everlasting_moments/?critic=creamcrop#contentReviews | |

| Everlasting Moments got great notices. How come I've never heard of it? Must have been during my movie blackout period. I used to like those merchant ivory period films.
Have you seen Crimes And Misdemeaners? It's woody allen, but not typical woody allen. One of my favorites.

| I hadn't heard of Everlasting Moments either, but a friend had rented it saying it had great reviews and told me about it. Some might think it's a little slow, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm not sure if men will like it as much.
I haven't seen Crimes & Misdemeanors. I heard it was similar to Match Point, which I thought was excellent. I'll have to rent that one. I think I like Woody's dramas even better than his comedies.

| I liked Match Point, but I don't remember it having the depth of Crimes and Misdemeaners. It would be a good rental and ...most likely available. | |

| Sounder,
I watched Crimes & Misdemeanors, and it's an excellent movie. Very funny in parts. It certainly points out the amorality of our times when people no longer have guilt over their wrongs, and only worry about getting caught. The movie almost seems to be saying, hey you can do whatever you want, and there are no repercussions. Some people are so disconnected from their inner selves, their conscience, their souls, that I suppose they don’t seem to suffer from the wrongs they commit, or at least so it appears on the surface, but on some deeper level, it has to be affecting them, even if they are not consciously aware of it, at the subconscious level.
What was your take on the movie?

| I think that is about right. That character goes from being repulsed by the very thought, to life as usual as time goes by. Maybe like a lost love fades into the past. That bad acts are not necessarilly punished in this life. What you have stated further, may not be so..at least for all people. And for seemingly normal people, not just narcisists or sociopaths. Subtexts of what people may do when they are cornered, and talent may lose out to slime. Those fine upstanding pillars of society may not be what they seem.
I hope I got that right. I've seen it several times, but not in many years.

| I looked on that list of the 1000 best movies by NY Times and rented Amores Perros (2000). Wow, that's a great flick. Some violent scenes, and also implied violence with dogs (dog fighting)... they don't actually show dogs fighting, but still it's heartbreaking in scenes.... It's sub-titled, but worth it... I can see why it's in the top 1000 movies ever. | |

That one slipped by me somehow. I still have a LOT to see. Got it on hold at the library now.

| I saw amores perros. I may have seen it before as I had it checked off my list. They get lost in me brain and the feeling of dejavu is sometimes just a feeling. I liked it. Reminded me of Tarantino.
I got the second season of Mad Men from the library. I was not dissapointed.
