IRS wants me.((

I do my own taxes, and somehow looks like I missed listing some dividend income in 07'. I thought it was odd that I got half of what I paid in back, then with the 600$ stimulous payment I got the rest back, short of the 600, because the balance was less. Now they are saying I owe 600$ more than I initally paid in, that I got all of back. They send a notice with what they return saying, if you don't agree, let them know. It is hard enough doing the taxes, and Then trying to figure out a mistake I might have made. I figure They must know what I owe, and forget about it. For 08' I got almost all I paid in back, so just figured I must do something right or wrong. Guess I better check that return, since they will Probably be coming after me for that also.((( My sister got most of what she had paid in back, so we figured they Didn't need the money.)) She uses Turbo Tax, and I had found a 300$ difference in taxes we owed in what they had figured for something we both own in 07'.

Oh tell me about it! I do my own tax return plus my husband's return and prepare the accounts for his company for the accountant to do that return.

How our Revenue works remains a mystery to me. Two different departments can't agree between them whether I owe any National Insurance for the last 12 years - one says I do, another says I owe a reduced rate and yet another says I've paid up to date, I have letters from each of them contradicting each other - and one department is still wondering about - wait for it - whether I owe any tax from the early 80s when I lived and worked in Germany!!!!!!! I've long since stopped caring

this past yr I got back 90% of what I paid in, and so did my sister. She uses Turbo Tax, that I think makes mistakes. I had figured mine out with it before, and it didn't make sense to me, so went with my figuring. I don't understand how to figure a few things, so don't, and figure the IRS will tell me. Maybe that confuses them.) I don't try to hide anything or cheat, since I figure they will come after me. A few yrs ago when I didn't owe anything but was still filing, I got a letter saying, if I don't owe, don't file. Then they wanted me to file, and the woman I was talking to said she never heard of not filing, and wanted me to send her a copy of the letter. I didn't feel like searching for it so didn't. Thought it was a waste of time.
