| Following the baseball playoffs, and rooting for the Phillies, and many of the games have been nail biters, with explosions of emotion at the end, and the tension has been too much to deal with, so couldn't watch or listen at normal volume so the sting of a loss wouldn't be so bad. In 4 of the 8 games played the Phillies have won them with 2 outs in the 9th, and 2 with 2 strikes on the batter, so down to their last pitch. What has added to the tension is that the relief pitchers had been a disaster, and the closer who ends the game and saved 48 out of 48 last year when the Phillies, and they called, "Lights Out Lidge", couldn't hold the lead in the last 11 games of this season, and the mgr was using every pitcher but him in the playoffs, but brought him in to face one batter, then 2, then 3, which added to the tension and emotions, fearing a disaster, but he did good. I'm a Fair Weather Fan till the teams play good, and win a lot, and then look like they are going to the playoffs, and when in them don't want to miss a game or play. I don't have cable, and all the games are on it, so I purchased a playoff package from the league and Turner Broadcasting. They are only a little passed half the games that may have to be played, and I am getting beat up from the tension, but enjoying the ride. In last nights game the team acted like they won the final series, the way they acted when they won the game, so the tension has to be just as high for them. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091019&content_id=7495070&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=la | |

| Funny, telling my friend that watching the playoffs can be nerve wracking, when the games go down to the wire, and the team I am rooting for goes down to the last out or the last strike before winning, he gives me a scenario of me going through motions of nervous stress that he envisions and says, what I should do is take Thorazine to be able to get through it. I told him that would dull the emotions, excitement, and joy if they do win, and I just lower the volume, or not watch the action, but be able to still hear it or see it if I choose to, and if they do pull it out, that I can turn up the volume, or look at the tube. When he gets stressed he will drink till he falls asleep.
The team is young and many have long contracts, and many are saying this could be a frequent event. The city doesn't have a rich sports history, and in 64' I went into the service with the baseball team 6 games ahead with 10 games left, and didn't get to the world series. I didn't hear any news till the last day, and coming out of the chow hall in Tx, a Mexican kid was selling the Sunday paper with the headlines, and I thought I was Really in the Twilight Zone, along with everything else I was going through there.

| last night was pretty easy, even though the opposing pitcher was supposed to be awesome, but he wasn't that good, and the Phillies pitcher who is the equal was outstanding and in Yankee stadium. He caught a popup nonchalantly standing on the mound, and then caught a ball behind his back like he played for the Harlem Globetrotters. Phillies pitcher tonite has been in a lot of controversy with the Yankess, even throwing to the ground their very old coach who charged the mound a few yrs ago, and should make for interesting theater. The guy was an outstanding pitcher, but the Yankees have owned him at times, and he isn't young now. | |

| The series is over, and Mighty Casey Has Struck Out. No stress now over nail biting games, and it's Just a Game. I took a lets see attitude when they were behind in games, and watched tentatively. Mistakes were made that caused the losses, and maybe some bad decisions by the mgr, so I guess the better team won, but it was interesting. Interesting that with the economic problems the city has the team was going to pick up the tab for police overtime if they won and there was a parade.
Got to hear interesting sports talk and interviews with former players. Better than hearing about the football team, and how Good the owners Think they are, when all they do is try to figure how to make more money, screwing the dumb fans, who must like being screwed. They are only worried about the bottom line, and not putting a good team on the field, but they know they have a bunch of suckers. They were tail gating at 7AM, in the rain.
